Three Facing Meth Charges after Car Accident
Three people are facing methamphetamine charges after they caused a car accident in south Nashville recently. According to the police, Tyler Mahacek, 28, was driving a 2001 Nissan when he attempted to cross three lanes of traffic in westbound Haywood Lane at Apache Trail. He crossed in front of a 2009 Chevrolet van and the two vehicles collided. Thankfully, no one was seriously injured in the accident.
After the accident, the two occupants in the car with Mr. Mahacek: Kelsey Colvin, 21, and Kai Ramos, 29, took off on foot when police officers arrived. A witness reported seeing one of them run into a bathroom at a Shell gas station on Haywood Lane with a backpack. When authorities searched the bathroom, they found the backpack with an active one-pot meth lab.
The backpack also contained other items commonly used to make methamphetamine. It included a plastic bowl containing sodium hydroxide, a jug of sulfuric acid, a jar with pseudoephedrine residue, coffee filters, a plastic tub of ammonium nitrate and butane. The police now believe that Mr. Mahacek caused the accident after he accidentally spilled some of the meth-making materials in the car while he was driving.
All three occupants of the Nissan, Mr. Mahacek, Ms. Colvin, and Mr. Ramos, have been charged with manufacturing methamphetamine. Mr. Mahacek faces additional charges of leaving the scene of an accident, reckless driving, driving on a revoked license, and driving without proof of insurance. Warrants have been issued for all three people and they will be arraigned later this week.
