Multi-Car Accident Temporarily Closes Highway
A multi-car accident temporarily closed Highway 100 recently near the Ensworth High School. According to the police, the accident occurred around 5:45 a.m. on a Friday, in the 7700 block of Highway 100. Three vehicles were involved in the crash, all of them being regular passenger vehicles.
The Tennessee Highway Patrol reported that the initial trigger of the accident happened when an SUV drifted into oncoming traffic lanes and collided with a sedan head-on, which then caused the SUV to catch fire. A third vehicle approached the crash, swerved to avoid the cars, and hit a tree on the side of the road. An occupant in the third vehicle was trapped inside until emergency personnel could get them released.
The drivers and an occupant of third vehicle were all injured in the crash, but the driver of the car that hit the tree was injured the most critically. However, everyone involved in the accident is expected to survive. Two others involved in the accident were transported to Nashville hospitals for treatment, and the highway was closed until around 8:00 a.m. that day.
Tennessee Car Accidents
At the end of April, the Tennessee Department of Safety and Homeland Security reported a total of 261 traffic fatalities across the state, with 57 of those deaths occurring this month. Nashville and the surrounding Davidson County have seen 21 fatalities on the road this year alone.
Another report issued by the department tracked the driver actions that cause accidents around the state. According to the report, driving on the wrong side of the road like the SUV in this current accident has been attributed to 24,416 accidents in Tennessee over the last 10 years and 270 accidents already in 2015. Swerving to avoid something in the road like the third car in the accident has been connected to 21,956 accidents across the state over the last decade and 1,249 accidents so far this year.
Compensation for Car Accidents
Obtaining compensation for car accidents when more than one other party is involved can be tricky. The more vehicles that are involved in the accident, the more difficult it can be to determine who is responsible for your damages. This is why it is vitally important to have an experienced car accident lawyer by your side to help you get the compensation that you deserve.
Many victims of car accidents are unaware of what damages they can be compensated for after a crash. Some of the costs that can be recovered after a car accident include:
- Present and future medical expenses
- Property damage
- Lost wages and impaired earning ability
- Pain and suffering
- Emotional distress
- Wrongful death
- Funeral costs
…and other costs that are reasonably related to the damages caused by the accident.
