Tennessee Alcohol-Related Car Accidents
Over the last decade, around 80,000 alcohol-related traffic accidents have been recorded across the state of Tennessee. According to the Department of Safety and Homeland Security, as of the end of March there have been a total of 1,540 accidents this year that have involved alcohol as a contributing factor. Davidson County has either been one of the top counties for alcohol-related accidents every year for at least the last 10 years, along with Hamilton, Knox, and Shelby counties.
Drunk drivers are far more likely to cause an accident on the road than a sober driver. Depending on the size of a person, even one or two alcoholic beverages can be enough to impair a person’s driving on the roads. Driving under the influence can affect a person’s attention, concentration, information processing, judgment, motor skills, reaction time, and vision on the road that leads to thousands of accidents every year. This in turn leads to many people being injured, killed, and property destroyed as a result of drunken driving on Tennessee roads.
